    DITTO:

Anyway what we want to see in reviews is

    a) is the SATA III issue fixed with optical drive? I want to run a 1 TB drive the drive spot and my SSD of choice (yours, naturally) in the optical place.

I would be very grateful if you could test this: can you downgrade these to 10.6 with the installer DVD’s from a pre-Lion Mid 2011, or have they updated the firmware to the point where it’s not accepted anymore?

It was possible to do this with the Mid 2011′s that shipped with Lion with the right disk, but you had to re-map a couple function keys.

    Thanks in advance!

While we’re not going to go deep into this testing, I can report that I have taken a hard drive with an up to date build of 10.6.8 and installed it into one of the new October 2011 MacBook Pro models, it does boot and – given only a cursory run through – seems stable at this time.
However, since firmware and OS updates from Apple do not take into account situations like this, there may be unforeseen issues. As such, we do suggest using the operating system that came with your machine rather than retrofitting a prior OS.
So, play at your own risk.

Really interested to know if they have fixed the dual sata 3 sad issue – or the sata 3 in the optical drive bay issue on the 17 inch.

Thanks for the updates and info on all this so far. It’s been really helpful and I’ve been buying from OWC to support the level of service and commitment you provide to the Apple user base.

    Keep up the good work.

    Cheers.

First of all, why don’t you guys consider moving to Discus for comments? Automatically being able to post without typing name/email or waiting for moderation would improve things a lot. All the cool kids are doing it with their blogs.

    b) is heat worse at all? Nervous about the new higher end graphics card.

    c) just wondering, have you done comparisons between Apple’s stock SSDs and yours? Would be nice to see the numbers.

Thanks for the suggestion on comment client, we’ll take that into consideration.

Our writeup on our findings is still forthcoming. We’re not completed with our testing yet. When we are, we will post about our findings here on the blog.

Wait, what are the new specs? I can’t find them on MR, etc.

  6. Eh Brah says:

Hopefully Apple resolved the optical 6G ssd issue.
