#GivingTuesday Aims to Open Season of Giving

Between Thanksgiving and Christmas gift swapping, the holiday season truly epitomizes the spirit of giving. But nowhere is this more evident this year than with #GivingTuesday – a new initiative that aims to be “the giving season’s opening day”.

According to the movement’s website, more than 2,000 partners have teamed for #GivingTuesday to celebrate and encourage charitable activities that support nonprofit organizations. Among the founding partners is charity: water, an organization that is dedicated to permanently supplying clean, safe drinking water to needy communities all around the world. And as our Blog readers already may know, Other World Computing has recently teamed with charity: water in an effort to raise a total of $125,000 for the drilling of new wells in areas of most need. And to help that effort, beginning on Black Friday and continuing through the end of today, OWC is donating $5 for each new Twitter follower it gains!

After all of the Black Friday and Cyber Monday hype, we hope you’ll have room for one more day of giving. So check out charity: water’s #GivingTuesday blog, or head directly to the OWC Fundraiser page and see if there’s a way that you can help make a difference. In the season of giving it’s important not to overlook those most in need, and now is the time to make an even greater push to help.

And we can only hope that the inaugural #GivingTuesday is the start of something even bigger!
