21.5-inch iMac Late 2012 Unboxing

Friday, November 30th, 2012 | Author:

The first of our new 21.5″ iMacs has arrived. Not only has Apple slimmed down the iMac itself, but they’ve also slimmed down the packaging to an attractive wedge shape. Here’s a few unboxing photos for your visual pleasure…

As always, follow the OWC Blog for industry coverage, tips, and more tricks for keeping your Apple products at their best. We’ll post back soon once we get some initial testing done on this baby.

      What about glare and reflections?

Is OWC going to release a DIY SSD kit for the 2012 model iMac? If so, when? I want to buy this thing right now but I want to make sure I can get an SSD for it!

      Thank you, you are awesome!

      • Ron says:

Of course, if the 2011 kit works just as well, that’s great. With the new body design, will the dismantling/reassembling process be very simliar? Please make a video! I know you just got this thing today…

The machines are in our testing lab now. The new design is new territory for us. We’ll post once we know for sure.

I am also waiting on you guys to let us know when it’ll be possible to upgrade this 21.5″ iMac. Since the 1499$ version allows a BTO Fusion drive, there is enough space in the 1299$ version for an SSD. I’d rather wait for your expertise and buy the low-end version and upgrade the SSD myself to a higher capacity instead of having to go for the high-end 21.5″ and pay an extra 200$ for a tiny SSD inside. Unless there is an external Thunderbolt SSD that would do the same work for a similar price (for those who don’t want to blow their warranty right off the bat)?

Does it look like it’ll be compatible with the previous generation’s VESA adapter, with the stand removed…?

      • OWC Michael says:

Apple lists in the store that the VESA Mount Adapter Kit for iMac and LED Cinema or Apple Thunderbolt Display is not compatible with iMac (late 2012).

        • Tom Lawton says:

Dang.. thanks for looking that up for me..! I suppose I’d better see if there’s a new VESA adapter for the new model- Bet I can guess the price though- $39.00…?!
