Newer Technology Introduces High Performance 2.0TB Guardian MAXimus mini Portable RAID Solution For HD Video Capture and Playback

Newer Technology, Inc. announced today that it has added a 2.0TB 7200 RPM model to the Guardian MAXimus mini portable storage solution line. Featuring dual 2.5″ 1.0TB SATA hard drives or OWC Mercury Electra 3G SSDs, the bus powered (no AC adapter needed) Guardian MAXimus mini is available in six models that are test certified for video capture and playback without dropping frames (via eSATA and FireWire 800 interfaces) in the most popular compressed high definition video file formats including HDV, DVC Pro, and ProRes 422HQ. With a “Quad Interface” of FireWire 800/400, USB 2.0, & eSATA connections and set either in a hardware RAID-1 redundancy or RAID-0 speed mode, the Guardian MAXimus mini offers Mac and PC users Plug and Play data transfer speeds up to 300MB/s.

“Live Activity” Backup for Maximum Data Protection
Guardian MAXimus mini comes factory set as a RAID-1 Plug And Play “live activity” data redundant/backup solution ideal for “in the field” storage and protection of financial records, medical files, business projects, wedding photography sessions, nearly any critical data capture scenario that consumer and professional users simply cannot risk losing. Always guarding against data loss and costly system downtime, the Guardian MAXimus mini MAXProtect mode writes the same information in real-time for a “mirrored” copy.

MAXPerform For High Speed Data Transfers
For Mac and PC users seeking ultimate performance and capacity over redundancy, Guardian MAXimus mini is easily switched via the front panel LCM screen/control interface menu to the RAID-0 MAXPerform mode.

MAXimum Portability & Space Savings
The Guardian MAXimus mini’s bus powered, fanless, and exceptionally compact design makes it ultra portable for “in-the-field” needs. Weighing in at less than 1/4th the weight and size of similar 3.5″ based desktop RAID solutions, it provides maximum data protection with minimal bulk and use of space on a desktop or when carried in a gear bag.

MAXimum Compatibility
With a “Quad Interface” of two FireWire 800 ports, and one FireWire 400, one USB 2.0, and one eSATA port and all connecting cables included, Guardian MAXimus mini doesn’t require any complicated set-up and is ready for Plug and Play use with legacy Macs, the latest Mac models, as well as PCs. It provides data transfer speeds up to 300MB/s and can be moved between different systems utilizing its supported interfaces with complete interoperability for maximum data backup performance and flexibility.

Six Test Certified Models Available
In addition to the new 2TB model, the NewerTech Guardian MAXimus mini, a Visionary Product Awards finalist at CES in the Storage Visions Awards Program, is test certified for HD video use via the eSATA or FireWire 800 interfaces with the following models:

  •  1.0TB (500GB+500GB 7200RPM) Guardian MAXimus mini with selectable RAID-0 or RAID-1 settings and FireWire 800/400, USB 2.0, and eSATA interfaces. $234.99
  • 1.5TB (750GB+750GB 7200RPM) Guardian MAXimus mini with selectable RAID-0 or RAID-1 settings and FireWire 800/400, USB 2.0, and eSATA interfaces. $247.99
  • 2.0TB (1.0TB+1.0TB 7200RPM) Guardian MAXimus mini with selectable RAID-0 or RAID-1 settings and FireWire 800/400, USB 2.0, and eSATA interfaces. $297.99
  • Guardian MAXimus mini with two 240GB, 480GB, or 960GB OWC Mercury Electra 3G SSDs priced starting at $347.99

The Guardian MAXimus mini is also available in 5400RPM hard drive models suitable for audio, photography, video playback, and other data storage needs from NewerTech’s exclusive distributor, Other World Computing (OWC), as well as through the retail channel. All Newer Technology storage solutions come ready for Plug and Play use with interface connecting cables, a $100 retail value disk utility software bundle, and an industry leading three-year complete solution warranty which includes free lifetime US-based 24/7 technical support and a 48-hour repair turnaround time with up to one year of complimentary Level 1 data recovery service.

With huge capacity and HD video capabilities in a lightweight, compact design, the Guardian MAXimus mini is an essential component to a video production set-up,” said Grant Dahlke, Brand Manager, Newer Technology, Inc. “With no AC adapter needed, it can be used on location and then easily transported back to the studio for editing.

    • We have not been sitting idle and are hard at work on a significant roll out of Thunderbolt equipped products – most of which will also include USB 3.0 support. In the same like, we are also motivated to expand our Thunderbolt product selection in general, but these products in general and from all providers are taking longer to complete and introduce than any of us would have liked. This really is a very new technology and one with much promise and a great future. We are as anxious as you to have these Thunderbolt products available and we hope you can hang in there with us. I do believe our forth coming OWC and NewerTech Thunderbolt equipped solutions will be well worth the wait. Thank you for your patience!

      • Thank you!!! Just retired a Mac Pro for a full-spec 2012 iMac, and I’m looking forward to new OWC Thunderbolt drive enclosures to use my 14TB of drives from the Mac Pro.
