OWC Adds Independent Mode to Mercury Elite Pro Qx2 Hardware RAID Data Storage and Backup Solution

PR_Qx2_4TBOther World Computing announced today the increased versatility of Independent Mode in its multi-interface, four-bay professional-grade Mercury Elite Pro Qx2 RAID storage product for enterprise, professional and prosumer users.

The Mercury Elite Pro Qx2 has been enhanced with the addition of Independent Mode to the user selectable options of Hardware RAID 0, 1, 5, 10 and Span. In Independent Mode, each drive mounts as an individual volume. With the flexibility of multiple drive modes and high-speed USB 3.0, FireWire 800 and eSATA interfaces, the Mercury Elite Pro Qx2 offers the discerning user the ideal combination of speed, capacity, and redundancy to handle demanding applications.

The Mercury Elite Pro Qx2 features four hot-swappable bays, multiple interface support, and up to 16TB of available storage capacity. It is engineered specifically for applications such as backup, audio/video, photography, data management, and data-intensive processes.

“We’ve listened to customer demands for ‘drive independence’ and now the extremely robust Elite Pro Qx2 is even better with Independent Mode,” said Larry O’Connor, Founder and CEO, Other World Computing. “Its unique mix of multiple drive capacities, multiple high-speed interfaces, and multiple drive modes makes it the premier choice for power users.”

Plug & Play Convenience for Mac & PC

Thanks to a variety of convenient features, adding the Mercury Elite Pro Qx2 to any Mac or PC is plug-and-play easy. FireWire 800 (two), USB 3.0, and eSATA interfaces provide compatibility and interoperability with multiple operating systems and computers. Front panel LEDs allow for at-a-glance system status checks. A removable key lock ensures the installed hard drives and selected RAID mode remain secure. Four hot-swappable bays currently support up to 16TB of drive capacity.

Available as a non-populated kit, with no Drives:

Four Prosumer Models Available:

The Mercury Elite Pro Qx2 is also available in four enterprise-class options that range from 4TB to 16TB solutions. The Mercury Elite Pro Qx2 includes all connecting cables, locking keys, documentation, and a disk utility software bundle valued at more than $100 (retail). Mercury Elite Pro Qx2 units are backed with an up to five-year warranty. For more information and immediate availability, please visit: OWC Mercury Elite Pro Qx2.

Built for Demanding, Performance-Intensive Applications

The Mercury Elite Pro Qx2 is built for demanding and performance-intensive professional applications such as audio/video editing, HD-video, digital photography, professional music, graphics, and redundant backup. It was engineered for professionals who require high-level data storage performance and reliability. The Mercury Elite Pro Qx2 is pre-configured in a Hardware RAID 5 mode to provide optimal performance with data redundancy, and to ensure uninterrupted access to stored data and protection against data loss. In addition, the Mercury Elite Pro Qx2 can be easily user configured between RAID 0, 1, 5, or 10, and can be set to non-RAID Span and Independent drive settings. Comprehensive ‘Burn-in’ Test Ensures Highest Reliability

Unlike other companies that assemble and ship their products with little or no testing, each Mercury Elite Pro Qx2 undergoes a multi-hour “burn-in” performance certification procedure prior to shipping. This ensures every Mercury Elite Pro Qx2 is operating properly and that the installed drives are ready for demanding use, with burn-in testing up to 30 hours.

Backed By the Best Support in the Industry

The best warranty is one a user will never have to use, but should the need occur, OWC is proud to provide a superior level of support and warranty coverage. Each Mercury Elite Pro Qx2 comes with free lifetime, US-based 24/7 technical support, an up to a five-year warranty (which includes a 48-hour repair turnaround time guarantee), and six months of complimentary Level 1 data recovery.

  • The independent mode will work with eSATA as well? I know that I’ve seen other multi-drive enclosures on your site that offer independent mode, but not via eSATA. This would be a huge deal for me and my OWC-modded 2010 iMac!

    • Independent mode will work with an eSATA connection that supports port multiplication. Unfortunately the eSATA port on your iMac does not support this technology.

  • Sweet. Makes it much more useful for people switching from a 4 bay Mac Pro tower to a Mac mini + Qx2. :-)

If only you had this in 2010 when I made the switch. I had to go with a pair of OWC dual bay enclosures.
