Retina MacBooks Get a Refresh with Faster Processor, Higher Memory Standard

Globe-New_MacsIn a similar fashion to its low-key release of new Airs back in April, Apple released refreshed versions of its MacBook Pro with Retina display today. Both the 13” and 15” models received faster Intel Haswell processors, while each model now comes with more standard memory with the 13” model now featuring 8GB and the 15” packing 16GB.

Unlike the 2014 line of MacBook Airs, however, there was no across-the-board price reduction with the new Retina MacBook Pros. The pricing remains the same in each Retina model, except for the high-end 15” model, which received a $100 price reduction down to $2,499. The non-Retina MacBook Pro also received a $100 price cut today bringing its cost down to $1,099. The user-upgradeable non-Retina model is otherwise unchanged.

New rMBP, same external design
The external design of the refreshed rMBP is unchanged, meaning they’re still compatible with OWC and NewerTech accessories such as video adapters, protective snap-on covers and keyboard covers. And the new rMBP still uses the MagSafe 2 power adapter, which is compatible with the NewerTech Snuglet for a more secure connection.
