Campaign Aims for Accurate Portrayal of Veterans in TV, Movies

GOT YOUR 6 LOGOWe often see actors depicting veterans on TV and in movies. It’s common for those performances to portray the veterans as either “heroes” or “charity cases”. However, it’s far less often that veterans are portrayed somewhere in between as “neutral” or “assets” and with higher rates of employment, lower rates of homelessness and better mental health outcomes.

Got Your 6 recognizes that Americans often believe what they see on TV and view many veterans simply as “broken heroes”. This has prompted the organization to launch a Cultural Campaign, which aims to “work with writers, showrunners, producers, casting directors, et al, from the entertainment industry to help increase the frequency of the ‘neutral/asset’ portrayal of veterans on film and television.”

Got Your 6 released a six minute video synopsis of “Got Your 6 Vetfronts”, which honored content creators in Hollywood who have done an outstanding job portraying veterans accurately and positively. With Vetfronts, Got Your 6 hopes to inspire future storylines and characters by introducing the entertainment industry to some of this generation’s most accomplished military veterans.

You can help this cause, by supporting Got Your 6 in its focus on the six key pillars of veteran reintegration: jobs, education, health, housing, family, and leadership. OWC is a National Sponsor of “Got Your 6,” and offers Got Your 6 pins with 100% of the proceeds from each sale going to the organization.
