Hot Read: Decades-Old Version of ‘Passcode’ Put Homework Before Gaming

Globe-AplusAn article posted on The Verge today details the story surrounding what can be described as one of the first “passcodes” for gaming from the late 1980s.

No, not the same passcode used by parents to keep youngsters from playing Angry Birds all hours of the night on their iDevice. This lock was physically attached to a Nintendo system to prevent “Nintendonitis,” which is code for too much gaming.

Of course, in today’s world there are many, many more devices that require a “lockout” to keep minds on homework rather than games. And this nostalgic look back almost makes a person long for the quaint days when the only thing that needed a lockout feature was a Nintendo.
