Space & Beyond: Astronomers Discover Supermassive Black Hole

Globe-AstronomyWe here at the Rocket Yard certainly take notice anytime astronomers make a big discovery.

So you can only imagine the excitement when something is discovered that is literally so big that it contradicts a scientific theory.

Astronomers say that they have found as supermassive black hole that was formed a mere 900 million years after the Big Bang. The black hole is about 12 billion times more massive than the sun, and it is so big that it challenges theories on how they grew in the early universe.

“Current theory is for a limit to how fast a black hole can grow, but this black hole is too large for that theory,” Fuyan Bian, Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics, Australian National University (ANU), told Reuters on Wednesday. You can read more at new.discovery.com.

We’ll be sure to keep an eye on this supermassive story as it develops.
