Apple Issues Voluntary Recall for Beats Pill XL Speakers

Beats by Dr. Dre Pill XL Speaker

With all of the Macs, iPads, and iPhones that Apple sells, it’s sometimes easy to forget that the company also sells accessories. Today the company issued a voluntary recall for the Beats by Dr. Dre Pill XL Speaker, noting that on rare occasions the battery inside the speaker can overheat and cause a fire safety risk.

Owners of the large pill-shaped speakers can get more information about the recall on the Apple website, then fill out a web form to receive a post-paid box for shipping the speaker back to Apple. Once the speaker has been received, customers will receive a $325 refund about three weeks later.

The Beats Pill XL speakers have been available for purchase since November, 2013 as part of the Beats by Dr. Dre line acquired by Apple last year.
