We all know that old joke about the day a certain software company in Washington makes a product that doesn’t suck being the day they start manufacturing vacuum cleaners. Well, the reverse is true for Newer Technology, with their iPhone 3G/3GS window mount.
For a single-cupped mount, this thing grips hard! OWC Jamie was using another brand window mount on his desk while the NewerTech model was under development. Subjected to no other stresses other than just sitting on his desk, the “other” mount suddenly toppled over. Apparently, the suction lock lever broke under that minimal pressure. Now imagine if that had happened in your vehicle. Yikes…
The NewerTech mount, on the other hand, provides much better adhesion to the mounting surface. How much better? I won’t go into details, but in a Mythbusters-inspired bit of product testing, we found that it was able to support the weight of one of our technicians.
