Mac Tablet Now Shipping ;-)

modbooktallOK.. the Axiotron Modbook, currently the world’s only Mac-based tablet computer, has been shipping from our docks since 2007.  Apple has had the trademark of TabletMac transferred from Axiotron to Apple within the past year, sparking more interest into the rumors of an “official” Apple Tablet-style computer across the web.  Some of the rumors include an iPhone-like device with larger, netbook-sized screen; a MacBook Air based device, even a resurrection of the Newton.  Many of the rumors include thoughts of running a tablet style Mac off the iPhone OS rather than the Mac OS.

Regardless of the speculation of whether, if, or when Apple may or may not introduce their fabled TabletMac device; Other World Computing, a fully certified Axiotron Authorized System Manufacturer (AASM), has two options to allow you to get your Mac Tablet Computer now.  Why wait to feed your craving for a Mac-based Tablet?  There’s no need to sweat whether the features you’re looking for may even be included.

The Axiotron Modbook comes complete with an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.13GHz processor, up to 6.0GB of memory, up to 1.28TB (that’s 1280GB) of drive capacity,  Nvidia 9400M Performance Graphics, built in iSight, Airport wireless 802.11b/g/n,  runs on a full version of Mac OS 10.6 “Snow Leopard”, and and exclusively for OWC customers, a built-in WAAS enabled GPS at no additional cost.  If you can do it on a MacBook, you can do it on the Modbook – plus so much more!

With 512 levels of pressure sensitivity through the WACOM Penabled Digitizer and the AnyView 13.3″ Wide Screen, the ModBook makes the perfect computer for artists on the go.  Feels just like the real thing.

So…how does one go about getting a Mac Tablet now instead of just breathing in the vaporware?

Option One: Purchase the complete ModBook Tablet Solution from $1649.00 from Other World Computing.

Option Two: “Bring Your Own ‘Book” (BYOB)

Owners of an existing Apple MacBook 13″ (with FireWire 400) can choose Modservice and have their MacBook converted by OWC into a fully featured Modbook from $629.99.  The turnkey service includes FedEx shipping to and from OWC in a protective shipping box and exclusively for OWC customers, a built-in WAAS enabled GPS at no additional cost. Conversion turn-around is 48 hours or less and customers may also select options for memory, hard drive, SSD, and optical drive upgrades for OWC to install during the Modservice conversion.

Both new Modbook and Modservice conversion offerings are backed by a 90 Day Axiotron Hardware limited warranty, which can be optionally extended to up to a Three-Year OWC Warranty starting from $129.00. The Extended Warranty covers the original MacBook components; any customer-selected upgrades installed by OWC at the time of modification, and the tablet components.

So, why wait for the speculations and rumors to settle when you can get your Mac-based Tablet Solution today?

  • I’ve enjoyed Apple for sometime, they produce gadgets that is aesthetically gorgeous while working like a each and every time. Alot of companies aren’t like that, it’s usually one or the other. Businesses don’t usually take aesthetics seriously like Apple. With that said I’ve got to say that I’m very excited about the upcoming Tablet. One thing I question though, is it too soon? I’m afraid that this may be ahead of our time. What do you think?
