@Bucket: you’re absolutely right. I saw Express Card and I immediately thought ExpressCard, because I’ve got ExpressCard on the brain at the moment since I’m afraid that the new MBPs coming soon (I intend to buy a 17″ model) won’t have built-in USB 3 or even eSata and I’m desperately trying to find a high-speed transfer from external storage into the Mac.

@ Henry Larsen: PCI Express is NOT a bottleneck/slower than USB 3.0. (although it is a 1x lane card). I think you misunderstood between an ExpressCard vs PCI Express (PCIe).
USB 3 ~ 5.8Gbps throughput… most (all) drives are SATA II (or slower) = < 3.0Gbps bandwidth …. but if you RAID (0, 1, 5 or 10) several high performance drives you may hit more than 3Gbps (384MB/s).
It would be nice to see some USB 3 PCIe cards for the old PPC/G5 Towers :)
Re: adding the CalDigit ExpressCard
In that case, you will be choked by the ExpressCard bottleneck, which is slower than USB 3.0!
so which Mac has USB 3 now?
Natively, none so far. However you can add USB 3.0 capability to a Mac Pro by installing the CalDigit 2 Port USB 3.0 SuperSpeed PCI Express Card for Mac Pro or Windows PC with PCI express slot.
I’ll stick with Firewire 800 & eSATA until LightPeak starts show up. :-)
