Check The Pulse On Your New Year’s Resolution

Monday, March 17th, 2014 | Author:

healthtrackerAt the beginning of every year, we make promises to better ourselves. We call these plans “resolutions.” The resolution begins with high hopes and slight delusions of grandeur. We choose something like “This year, I’m finally going to climb Mount Everest.”

But within the first few months of the year the resolution changes to “Maybe I’ll start by climbing the biggest hill in town.” And by May it has changed to “I should probably climb off the couch to get my own Oreos.”

Or maybe you promised yourself you would go to the gym every day. But by February you’ve convinced yourself that was a bit ambitious and not even Gisele has time to hit the gym every day. By May you’ve accepted that chasing around your kids and making sure your husband doesn’t hurt himself while doing household projects definitely counts as exercise (and that chocolate is a good source of antioxidants).

This is the all too familiar “de-evolution” of the New Year’s Resolution. Article Continues…

Protect Your iPhone From Expensive Drops with KX, KXs

Monday, March 10th, 2014 | Author:

As we’ve showed you in the past, there are plenty of ways to break your iPhone. Admittedly, some ways are more common than others (most people tend to text while walking slightly more than they breakdance).

So how exactly are people breaking their iPhones? SquareTrade released some statistics on how the devices have been meeting their premature demise over the years. They’ve confirmed our rampant walking-and-texting habit by finding the No. 1 reason to be the iPhone “fell out of my hand”. (We have yet to confirm where “fell out of my wind turbine” ranks.) And 24 percent of owners either had their iPhone fall from their lap or knocked from the table. This is a significant portion of accidents, but these kinds of things just happen.

A separate study by mobileinsurance.co.uk illustrates the top reasons why these broken iPhone screens are often left unfixed:

Even At Great Distances, OWC Thunderbolt Cables Perform

Thursday, February 27th, 2014 | Author: and

PR_OWC_30MThunderboltWhen working with audio and video, noisy storage equipment can hinder the creative process.

But with longer length Thunderbolt cable options from OWC, you can move noisy storage appliances to an equipment closet or separate soundproof machine room for a quiet and productive workplace without sacrificing performance – even when working with 4K video transfers!

In fact, with cables up to 30 meter (almost 100 feet) long, you’ll be able to make your workspace as large as you need it. And even over these long distances, OWC’s cables will still perform with speeds of up to 20Gbps!

As you can see in the table below, during our testing with the Late 2013 MacBook Pro booting to OWC Mercury Helios 2 with two 480GB
Mercury Accelsior_E2 PCI Express SSDs set in a Disk Utility software RAID 0, we found no significant difference in performance between the longer cables and shorter cables: Article Continues…

NuStand Alloy Gives Apple TV a Much Needed Boost

Friday, February 21st, 2014 | Author:

NuStand Alloy Apple TVSometimes when you run into a problem with a device, the simplest solution is the right one.

Recently, I bought a new entertainment center for my living room. It holds my TV, router, and my Apple TV among other things. The problem is, all the devices sit relatively low on the unit, almost at floor level.

It looks good and reduces clutter around my TV, but it created a problem with the Apple TV. It wasn’t working consistently. The IR sensor wouldn’t read signals from the Apple Remote.

Obviously, I thought something was wrong with the Apple TV. First I checked controller in remote, and it was fine. Then I checked for system updates and restarted it. My many years of experience with a computer told me that restarting it definitely should have worked. Nothing.
