New video shows how bad Tech Support can be when it’s not OWC.

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010 | Author: OWC Chris S. and OWC Michael

In case you missed it, yesterday was the latest episode of “The Other World” by Krishna M. Sadasivam of PC Weenies.

While Krishna has a great take on how good our tech support and customer service is, it’s really brought into sharp relief when you realize how it stacks up against “the other guys.”

Check out the video below to see just how bad it could be, and rest assured that you won’t be getting that kind of service from us!

Note: We have noticed that the video’s audio goes out of sync on the YouTube version. To see it without this annoying glitch, please check out the version on our Web site.

OWC’s new eSATA Adapter shows why removing the ExpressCard slot from the 15” MacBook Pros was a bad idea.

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010 | Author: OWC Chris S.

For those of us fortunate enough to have a MacBook Pro with an ExpressCard/34 slot, there’s been one  minor drawback – the cards almost always stuck out from the side of the MacBook Pro in an ugly protuberance, making it both odd-looking and difficult to fit in a bag without removing the card.

OWC’s Slim ExpressCard to eSATA Adapter changes things quite nicely. This card fits inside the ExpressCard/34 slot such that the eSATA port sits flush with the edge of the MacBook Pro, which means you can leave it installed, even when you’re not using it. It doesn’t require any special drivers, so you can just slide it in and go. It’s even bootable, so you can start your MacBook Pro up from an external drive, should you so desire.

Of course, we don’t need to go into the details of how much an advantage eSATA has in performance over FireWire 800 and USB 2.0. However, if you want some specifics, you may want to check out Lloyd Chambers’ latest review over at Mac Performance Guide.

If you want the short version, though, I think this quote from the article sums it up nicely.

The flush-fitting OWC Slim ExpressCard at about $28 is a total no-brainer buy to improve performance with any drive that supports eSATA. Driver-less and bootable too!

So if you have an external drive with an eSATA port, a MacBook Pro with an ExpressCard/34 slot, and a desire to increase your data throughput, then the OWC ExpressCard to eSATA Adapter is just what you’re looking for.

Classic Car Show To Rev Up Woodstock, IL June 9th

Monday, May 24th, 2010 | Author: OWC Mary
beep beep!

GlobeMan loves fast machines... whether they be computers or cars!

Earlier this spring there was a rumor revin’ up that there might be a weekly Cruise Night coming to Woodstock soon.

I love the idea because since the local town over, Crystal Lake, stopped theirs a year or so ago, there isn’t a cruise night within an hours drive.

And who wants to drive an hour away to be able to enjoy their own car or mingle with others who have a passion for for the same things?

The best part about this rumor is that it’s partly true…its first night of possibly many more is being hosted by a great coffee, tea, and smoothie place right off of Rte. 14.

Yep, Java Planet Coffee and Internet Cafe is hosting a classic car show Tuesday, June 9, from 6PM to 9PM.

So all those passer-by’s on busy Rte 14 will get some dessert in the form of eye candy before pulling in to – as OWC Grant puts it, “drink then drool”.

I greatly enjoy bringing my toys to the annual car show held on the historic Woodstock square every August, but if this other local show at Java Planet turns into a weekly Cruise Night, that will really provide a more regular way for me and other enthusiasts to enjoy our hobby.

Another benefit is that it won’t be in the historic square, so no one has to be concerned about bothering in-town residents or others that don’t appreciate car shows.

What do you think...would you come to this weekly cruise night or are you more about being square on the square once a year?

  • I'll be there. (28%, 5 Votes)
  • I'll be square. (16%, 3 Votes)
