Apple Store was Down!

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010 | Author: OWC Michael

This morning, the online Apple Store has been taken down temporarily stating “We are busy updating the store for you and will be back shortly.” This action usually indicates a new product being released or updated.

Is Apple updating the Mac Pro lineup? Could the white iPhone be released for sale today? Perhaps the iMac lineup will be refreshed with speed increases? From the popularity of the iPad, could the iMac become a touchscreen device? Maybe even the fabled trackpad input device will be released?

We’ll have the details for you here on the OWC Blog as soon as we know.  Stay tuned.

UPDATE: The iMacs have been updated to now feature Intel Core i3, i5, and i7 processors across the entire line. No more Core 2 Duo processors. In addition the Magic Trackpad has been released as the first multi-touch trackpad for Mac desktop computers.

Doesn’t look at first glance that the Mac Pro got an update per se, but we do get a tease that 12 cores of processing power is coming in August! As well as a new 27″ LED Cinema display coming soon.

Sound off if you’ve found more that we might have missed, for now, we’re getting busy updating our site!

Shipping your OWC Order to Canada, eh?!

Monday, July 26th, 2010 | Author: OWC Richard

Recently, we have received a few inquiries from our Canadian customers regarding shipping, brokers fees, customs & taxes and what is the best course of action for them to take when shipping products to Canada. We have investigated the situation, and have come up with these helpful insights to those affected.

If you choose to have your OWC order shipped via UPS or FedEx, OWC now includes all brokerage fees in our shipping costs to Canada. However, there still may be duty taxes and/or custom fees that would be charged separately by the carrier, on behalf of the Canadian Government, and are usually due upon delivery of your order.

If you choose to send US Postal (First Class, Priority or Express), please remember that for international shipments, First Class can take up to 3+ weeks to arrive. Priority usually takes between a week to a week and a half and Express shipments typically arrive within a week.

As far as tracking your parcel goes, typically USPS First Class is the least expensive option and, as such, does not come with any tracking information. Priority shipments will have a reference number that can sometimes show the major happenings like pick up and delivery. A neat trick that many may not be aware of is that the USPS tracking information can also be tracked using canadapost.com once the parcel has entered Canada!

However, for full and complete tracking information, you probably want to use either USPS Express, UPS or Fed Ex.
Below are some links that should help our Canadian customers make a more informed decision concerning buying and shipping products from OWC:

OWC would appreciate any feedback on these links, or others that may be of help to our Neighbors To The North! Please make your comments and suggestions below.

Is your iPhone 4 losing its signal? There’s an app for that.

Friday, July 23rd, 2010 | Author: OWC Chris S.

In case you haven’t noticed, there’s been a bit of a stir regarding some signal loss on the iPhone 4 when it’s held a certain way. At their press conference last week, Apple said to would be offering free bumpers or cases to all iPhone 4 users. Those who sprung for the bumper in the first place would be refunded the cost.

Well, Apple has already started the refunding, and has now rolled out the “iPhone 4 Case Program” app to make getting a case or bumper even easier for iPhone 4 users.

All you need to do is download the app, fill out the information, and send your order off to Apple who will ship your case/bumper out to you.

Of course, while you’re waiting for your free case or bumper to arrive, you may want to check out all the free iOS apps the OWC Blog staff has reviewed over the last few months. There’s bound to be one in there you may like.

A Different View of OWC.

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010 | Author: OWC Chris S.

Sometimes it’s a good thing to take a look at things from another perspective. By seeing yourself  from another point of view, you can determine whether or not you’re actually putting out the image you wish to project. Sometimes you can do this yourself; sometimes you need someone else to help you.

OWC Customer Tim Whiston of Wauconda, IL offered us a chance to literally see ourselves from another angle, when he flew over our headquarters here in Woodstock and snapped a few pictures showing the whole OWC Campus, including our LEED Platinum certified corporate headquarters and distribution center, activity field, woodland and wetland preservation areas and, of course, our wind turbine.

Here’s the pictures he sent. Thanks, Tim!
