You still have time to order for 2010 tax breaks!

Thursday, December 30th, 2010 | Author: OWC Chris S.

We’re getting close to the end of the year, but savvy US taxpayers still have time to order equipment and take advantage of the Section 179 depreciation deduction.

Section 179 allows a taxpayer to elect to deduct the cost of certain types of property on their income taxes as an expense, rather than requiring the cost of the property to be capitalized and depreciated. Taking this deduction isn’t mandatory, but if you don’t take it for the year the equipment is purchased, you don’t get another chance.

The practical upshot of all this is that if you order by 11:59 Friday night, you can get the benefits for your 2010 taxes. You save now with all our Holiday Specials, and you get a break in your taxes in April. You get to save twice!

Of course, that’s an extremely simplified description; we’re Mac experts, not tax experts. For more in-depth information, we highly recommend talking to your tax advisor.

2010 – OWC’s Year in Review

Thursday, December 30th, 2010 | Author: OWC Chris S.

As the year winds down, we take the opportunity to look back over the last 12 months or so to see just how far we’ve come and give ourselves hope for the future. Looking back at 2010, we can sum it up as  a year of innovations and advancement, both for OWC and for the Mac platform.

Obviously, the innovation from Apple that had the greatest impact on the computer industry as a whole was the introduction of the iPad. End users flocked to it; other companies tried to emulate it. Reviewers alternately praised it as the “next big thing” or derided it as being “a really big iPod Touch.” Hundreds of cases and accessories sprang into existence in to help you make the most of the new device. Whether you liked it, hated it or really didn’t care, you couldn’t deny that Apple made a big splash with the iPad.

The iPhone 4, with its high-resolution Retina Display and video chat capabilities was a huge seller, but its success was tainted somewhat by antenna problems. After receiving a lot of flak for dropping calls via the “grip of death”, Apple rectified the problem somewhat with a free “bumper” program.

That wasn’t Apple’s only stumble during the year. In November, a “mysterious” announcement sent the rumor mills into overdrive by promising a day that we’d “never forget.” The result was a somewhat anticlimactic announcement of The Beatles catalog being available on iTunes. While this was something many music fans had been looking forward to, most agreed that the amount of hype given to it was far too much.

It was a bit of a downer for a year that had started so well. OWC, on the other hand, started strong and got stronger as the year progressed. Article Continues…

Loaded with Stuff!

Tuesday, December 28th, 2010 | Author: OWC Robert

It has been over 6 months since I last told you about my Lola and I feel that It is my duty to share some of her newest experiences with you. Time just flies when you are having fun and let me tell you, Lola has had some fun.

She has been driving pretty fast as of recently! You could even say Jimmie Johnson fast when using an OWC Mercury Extreme Pro RE SSD drive. Only the fastest and most reliable Solid State Drive on the market today will suffice for Lola’s data storage and backup needs.

At this point, I must say that Lola is pretty spoiled. She has taken over my credit cards. I am sure that some of you can relate. Lola is loaded with so much stuff that she now has her own section in my home.

She recently demanded that I take better care of her. Always dragging her to and from work and anywhere else she demands.

So, as always I quickly shopped and purchased the Case Logic Laptop Sleeve. It has everything that a MacBook Pro like Lola would want and need. Form fitted, suede, zippers, durability and a slimline design. Even a 25 year warranty. 25 years! I mean, really!?!

Of course, It did not stop there.

Lola wanted more protection from all of the bumps and bruises of travel. I continued to shop and got her the Matias Laptop Armor. It is stylish, rugged and has a silver aluminum slim design.

There is that word “slim” again. Lola just loves slim.
