NewerTech Announces NuStand Alloy Desktop Stands For Apple iPad And Mac Mini

Wednesday, December 22nd, 2010 | Author: OWC NewsFeed

Newer Technology, Inc. announced today the NewerTech NuStand Alloy desktop stands for holding and displaying an Apple iPad or Mac mini in a stable, modern, and elegant design with added display and placement flexibility.

Easier And More Secure iPad Viewing

The NewerTech NuStand Alloy for iPad is an attractive and safe solution that eliminates hard to view flat and unstable/unsafe “prop” viewing of an iPad. Featuring a sturdy, aircraft grade aluminum body and silicone center, the NewerTech NuStand Alloy for iPad gently yet securely holds an iPad up to a 15 degree angle in either portrait or landscape positions for personal viewing preferences. The open design provides full access to all ports for using, viewing and charging an iPad. Great as a semi-permanent desktop “dock”, the NuStand Alloy’s lightweight 3.5 ounce compact design makes it easy to transport for use in other locations.

There’s still time for last minute gifts from OWC.

Tuesday, December 21st, 2010 | Author: OWC Larry

Christmas now fast approaches and our team is here Monday through Thursday until after 11PM each night to make sure nothing is left behind. We are also open through 7PM on Christmas Eve (Friday) and available for ‘last minute’ tech support, customer service, or delivery status assistance.

Regardless of where you may have goods coming from (short of store pickup), if it needs to be there by Friday, I’d recommend using an air option. Ground will be pushing the envelope – you should allow a buffer of an extra 1-2 days if using UPS/FedEx Ground. Also, except for Express Mail, I’d recommend not using options delivered by the US Postal Service unless you don’t need it there by Friday.

So, if you need more memory for that new Mac; a nice case for that iPhone, iPad, or Macbook gift—the days are quickly winding down. Discounted air shipment options from OWC, however, will still get it there on time. :)

Rare Lunar Eclipse Tonight

Monday, December 20th, 2010 | Author: OWC Chris S.

Full lunar eclipses are pretty darn cool; The moon turns dark along the edge, then becomes a deep rust colored red before reversing the process a couple hours later.

Admittedly, they’re not quite as spectacular as a total solar eclipse. No sudden darkening of the sky – it’s already dark out. The time to go from partial to totality and back is generally 4-5 hours, making progress hard to determine unless you have a camera.

However, it is still one of the only astronomical events you can observe, even in areas with a lot of light pollution, such as cities. They’re also much more common than solar eclipses – there’s usually one or two lunar eclipses each year, and they can be viewed from a much larger viewing area.

This particular eclipse can be viewed in its totality all through North and Central America. South America, West Africa, and most of Europe will be able to see part of the eclipse before it sets. Australia, and Eastern Asian countries can see the last part of the eclipse after the moon rises. For exact times, we suggest swinging by NASA Science’s page about the event. Article Continues…

We Live Macs Too!

Monday, December 20th, 2010 | Author: OWC Mike H.

We live macs tooThe iPod was on its third generation of monochromatic display glory, and the PowerMac G5 was new.  It was early 2004 and that was the last time I purchased a “Mactop” before I recently jumped into an Intel based Mac laptop this December. My trusty six year old PowerBook G4 still kicks, and while it no longer kicks butt processor-wise, it’s still a very viable computer, aside from not being able to view You Tube videos due to the Mactop’s lack of a hardware decoder.

That trusty PowerBook really served me well. It went to events in California and London with me and I’ve used it to record many hours of audio, edited a fair amount of video, and created thousands of web pages with associated imagery. Despite rigorous use, the PowerBook has never failed me aside from normal maintenance with a NewerTech Battery replacement (years before I worked here at OWC), and a hard drive swap out not due to failure, but rather just being smart about replacing original 2.5″ drive since it was five years old.

I’m no hardware curmudgeon though…. I got an iMac in late 2008 to replace a 2003 PowerMac G5 so I could do things only an Intel Mac can do, plus my personal fleet of computers was aging, so it was time to begin the replacement process. The G5 proved just as reliable as the PowerBook. The darn thing keeps ticking… and now serves as a secure internet computing station at my parents house. Article Continues…
