OWC Radio #61 – The “End of the World” Episode

The Mayans may have been wrong… We’ve got massive flooding in Thailand causing a world-wide hard drive shortage, asteroids are on the way, Internet Explorer is no longer on top of the web browser food-chain, dinosaurs will soon be roaming the earth while the Mac Pro goes extinct, people are talking to their phones now, the Mac platform is becoming more susceptible to viruses, there are dogs and cats, living together – it’s mass hysteria! Is November 2011 the end of what we know?

OWC Radio is a monthly, forum-based podcast focused on the events and happenings in the Mac community. This week’s hosts are: OWC Grant, OWC Chris S., and OWC Mike H.

  • Oh man, this podcast was just full of great news. For a guy who bought a Mac Pro back in April and is looking to expand my storage, you were just killing me by the minute. On that note, does OWC plan to continue it’s turnkey upgrade program if/when Apple ends its Mac Pro line? If they do kill it off, is there a way for OWC could produce processor upgrades to then-current processors that aren’t part of the last of the model’s architecture?

Also, I agree with you guys that Chirs? is still crazy for typing his books up. I like my method better which only takes 20-30 minutes it takes me scan entire 1000+ page books to image PDFs much better, and it works on any computer iOS or computer. (Good Reader is my app of choice). Thanks for that shout out a few months back on that topic!

    • Hi Daniel….yes…we’ll continue the Turnkey program…we’re offering it for mini, iMac, and even the MPG program for Mac Pros. Unsure about processor upgrades though…would have to see what demand would be.

Glad to have you as a listener!

  • On the topic of the hard drive factories being shut down….

I wonder if this will prompt Apple to update the MacBook Pro line with SSD standard and a thinner Air like design.

You know they have to already have Pro level prototypes of Air type models. The question is if they can ramp up a new thinner SSD based MBP like fast enough before their inventory of drives run out.

    I’m hoping they can. :-)
