Happy Pi Day Everybody!

Today, March 14 at 1:59:26PM, marks a very special day in the lives of math enthusiasts and other such geeks known as Pi Day.

What makes today so special? Well, Pi is approximated as 3.1415926 and writing out the date numerically would be 3/14 1:59:26.

See…they’re the same numbers with different punctuation! Get it? Yeah, it’s whimsical – but what’s life without whimsy?

Taking the thought one step further – we’re about three years shy of the Grand Poohbah of Pi Day celebrations when the clock strikes 9:26:53AM on March 14th, 2015 and that cosmological event allows us to represent pi to two more decimal places out!

Pi represents the relationship between a circle’s diameter and its circumference as mathematically notated as Area equals pi times radius squared. A=πr2

So, wondering how to join in the Pi Day celebrating? Well, while the number is constant, the fun is infinite. There is no one right way to celebrate Pi Day. Some celebrate by reciting pi, writing songs based on pi, eating pi (okay, okay that should be eating pie – see just how whimsical this date can be?) or some even re-decorate their kitchen based on the digits in this mathematical constant.

However you decide to celebrate, we at OWC wish a very Happy Pi Day to all!
