OWC’s High-Performance External Storage Solutions Are Quieter Than Ever Before

OWCOther World Computing announced today that several popular high-performance external storage solutions are now significantly quieter, with up to 60% noise-reduction.

The Future is…Quiet
OWC continues to improve upon the exceptional quality and performance that set our external storage solutions apart by making them quieter than ever before. The critically acclaimed ThunderBay 4 was the first to receive this update, enhancing the already impressive 4-bay solution by making it nearly 33% quieter.

Since then, OWC has also incorporated noise-reduction improvements in the Mercury Elite Pro Dual and the Mercury Elite Pro Dual with Thunderbolt technology. The most impressive outcome came when we updated the Mercury Elite Pro Qx2, which resulted in reducing noise levels by a staggering 60%.

“The very low noise is now eminently acceptable to my sensitive ears.” – Lloyd Chambers, Diglloyd.com

For customers looking to completely eliminate the noise coming from cooling fans, OWC offers a wide-range of fanless external drives, including the Mercury Elite Pro, Mercury Elite Pro mini, Mercury Elite Pro Dual mini, and the Mercury On-The-Go Pro. For a truly silent solution, the Mercury Elite Pro mini and the Mercury On-The-Go Pro are available with OWC SSDs – and with no moving parts, these are completely silent and vibration-free.

Whatever the requirement, OWC has a whisper-quiet, pro-performance external drive that fits the bill and works beautifully in any environment.

  • Glad to see that OWC is focusing on noise. The Guardian Maximus I bought was so noisy that I could hear it upstairs and two rooms away. The house literally shook when backups were going on. I ended up buying a new fan and screws with shock absorbers. (For about $20 total). A rough, unmeasured, guesstimate – I’d say it’s about ⅓ the volume it used to be.
