OWC Aims to Bring SSD Upgrades for All MacBook Models

PR_EnvoyPro_2014SilverStevieIn case you missed Apple’s big “Spring Forward” event earlier today, Tim Cook & Co. announced a new ultra-thin 12” MacBook model with a Retina display. It is unclear at this point whether the SSD module in the new model will be user-upgradeable. But rest assured that OWC is diligently investigating this issue as well as working on bringing upgrades for all MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro models with module SSDs as well as iMac, Mac mini and Mac Pros!

The case for module based SSDs
When it comes to the module based SSDs in newer Macs, there are certainly some advantages. One benefit is simply the ease of service. If a machine goes bad, many customers have given kudos to the fact that OWC has SSD enclosures that allow them to take a 2010-current Air or MacBook Pro with Retina display SSD out of a non-working machine and pull data, reformat the drive or do whatever is needed without the need for a functional machine. Any MacBook Air or Retina laptop that has fallen victim to an unfortunate liquid spill certainly shows why their ease of repair combined with the ease of data maintenance, data migration, and data security all make a great case for the use of module based SSDs.

OWC DIY SSD upgrades are coming
We look forward to the months ahead as we roll out exciting DIY SSD upgrades for MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and most likely the newly announced 12” MacBook (bookmark the Rocket Yard for future news on this topic). And with the exciting announcement of 2x SSD support in the latest 13” Air and MacBook Pro, we’ll have SSD options to take advantage of those new speeds as well!

Envoy and Envoy Pro are available now
We have seen a tremendous uptick in sales for our great lineup of external SSD enclosures. With the OWC Envoy, you can install any SSD from 2010-2012 MacBook Airs. With the OWC Envoy Pro you can install an SSD from any MacBook Pro with Retina display, any MacBook Air from 2013-current, Mac mini 2014 and later or iMac Late 2013 and later. Customers are taking advantage of these great enclosures be it for migration, data recovery, or to upgrade the computer with an OWC DIY SSD kit.

So be sure to make OWC your destination for your SSD needs for your MacBook – new or old. And bookmark the Rocket Yard to get the latest news on the newest SSD upgrades from OWC!
