A Pi Day That Comes Only Once a Century!

PiWhile it will last literally only one second two different times today – at 9:26:53 a.m. and 9:26:53 p.m. – pi geeks will briefly be able to bask in the joy of a once-in-a-century occurrence.

At that moment on this special Pi Day, the date and time will combine to correspond with the first 10 digits of pi: 3.141592653 to be exact.

For those who don’t know, pi is the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter and is approximately equal to 3.1415. (Pi is an irrational number and actually has been calculated to over 13.3 trillion digits).

So make sure to celebrate this very rare Pi Day today and take a second (or two) to appreciate the profound importance that math and geometry have on our lives.

Or, you know, just use it as an excuse to eat a piece of pie.
