Happy 8th Birthday to the Apple MacBook Air!

Early 2015 MacBook AirEight years ago today, Steve Jobs took the stage at the Macworld Conference & Expo holding a manila envelope. What was in that envelope brought gasps from those in attendance.

The original 13.3” MacBook Air, first announced on Jan. 15, 2008, was the first of the many ultra-thin laptops to eventually be unveiled by Apple including the most recent MacBook iteration. The company was able to achieve this form factor by cutting back on ports and dropping the optical drive all together, which there fortunately was a solution for.

But while it might not seem quite as thin by today’s standards, the crowd’s reaction at the original unveiling (it officially hit store shelves on Jan. 29, 2008) helps tell the story of how revolutionary of a machine the MacBook Air really was.

And if you’re still holding on to your 2008 MacBook Air, MacSales.com has internal and external solutions to keep your 8-year-old machine running great. And you can even replace that aging battery.

Happy birthday, MacBook Air line! (OWC Quentin points out that it’s also Wikipedia’s 15th birthday!)
