Get More Life from Your ‘Obsolete’ 2010 15” or 17” MacBook Pro

macbook_pro_2012_2013In December, Apple announced that it had designated the Late 2009 iMac, Mid 2009 MacBook Air, Early 2009 Mac Pro as “vintage”, and the Early 2008 MacBook and MacBook Pro as “obsolete”.

But as the Rocket Yard pointed out back then, with the help of MacSales.com, you can make your older Mac anything but “vintage” or “obsolete”.

Apple has since added the Mid 2010 15- and 17-inch MacBook Pro to its “obsolete” list, but as with the aforementioned 2008-09 Macs, MacSales.com can help you make your 2010 MacBook far from obsolete.

Here are some of the upgrades you can take advantage of to make your 2010 MacBook Pro run like new:

By upgrading your “vintage” or “obsolete” Mac, you’ll not only bring a new world of performance possibilities, you’ll also avoid unnecessarily creating electronic waste. You can even purchase Used Macs from MacSales.com and get a new-to-you Mac while saving money. Used Macs from MacSales.com are OWC Warranted and backed by OWC’s expert support team.

  • mine is a hunk of junk, even after increasing the RAM from 4gb to 8gb. Sure, it’s SLIGHTLY faster but it still is slow and overheats way too easily. Are you sure moving to an SDD will help? I almost feel like it is better to get a whole new laptop (second hand 2014 or 2015). This thing is literally 10 years old now.

    • You would definitely see speed and performance increase with an SSD, but it is also worth looking at getting something a few years newer as well.

  • Do you sell 2010 macbook pro logic boards???
If not, can you refer me to a vendor?

    Thanks, Dan

  • Have mid 2010 15″ MB Pro with apparent logic board failure. Do you sell logic boards or are you interested in purchasing it from me?

  • This is being posted from a 2010 17″ mbp. upgraded to 8GB memory, ssd and new battery. Works great.

  • mid-2009 17″ MacBook Pro:
installed the 8GB of OWC memory at time of purchase,
    from the refurbished Apple Store,
    in April, 2010…
    installed a 512GB OWC SSD in January, 2016 – – – which made this unit hmmmmmmm…
will be replacing the battery “soon”…
great products, great tutorials, great service…
    NOT A PAID TESTIMONIAL

  • I’m clinging to my 15″ hi res antiglare MBP for similar reasons; I can’t stand the shiny screens on the newer models.

  • I have the last 17″ model made.

Runs great with an SSD and max memory.

I’ll be very sad when a future OS version stops supporting it and I have to consider downsizing to a smaller screen laptop.
