Computerworld Upgrades Retina MacBook with OWC Aura SSD

PR-MS-OWCAuraPCIeOWC’s line of Aura SSDs lets you upgrade the PCIe-based flash SSD in your mid-2013 or later MacBook Pro with Retina display or MacBook Air for the first time, giving you up to eight times the original capacity.

Replacing your factory SSD with a high-capacity Aura SSD really is as easy as removing a few screws. And recently, Lucas Mearian of Computerworld put together a how-to guide to show readers just how easy the upgrade is. Mearian was able to upgrade his 256GB factory drive to a 1.0TB OWC Aura SSD and utilize the original drive as a backup with the OWC Envoy Pro enclosure, which he says will provide storage for years to come.

“With the new 1TB Aura SSD, I’ve got plenty of breathing room for years to come. And, if I ever decide to get a new laptop, my mid-2013 MacBook Pro will have at least as good an SSD as Apple is likely to offer any time soon.”

  • When will we see larger versions of this? My 1 TB stock MBP storage is bursting at the seams.

    • Thank you for your question. At this time we are not ready to release any information on larger drives. Once we have any updates or new sizes, we will be happy to share!
