OWC Helps Digital Cinema Society Meet Challenge of 4K at NAB 2016

DCSEditingThe Digital Cinema Society aims to empower filmmakers with the knowledge of cinematic tools and techniques to craft effective motion picture narratives. So, naturally DCS was on hand for NAB 2016 to interview the innovators, content creators and broadcast leaders in attendance at the annual show. (See the video below for the DCS interview with OWC CEO Larry O’Connor, who was among the attendees.)

One of the major themes of this year’s NAB Show was 4K content. But the Digital Cinema Society didn’t just want to talk about 4K; they also wanted to shoot in it for the first time at NAB.

But in order to handle 4K footage, they would need equipment that could meet the demands of the new workflow. When it came to editing their footage, DCS turned to OWC and MacSales.com for equipment they needed.

You can read more about how the DCS relied on a memory upgrade for its iMac with Retina 5K display, an OWC ThunderBay 4 RAID and OWC Thunderbolt 2 Dock for its NAB 4K challenges at: digitalcinemasociety.org/essay/dcs-meeting-challenge-of-4k-nab-2016

Here is some of what the Digital Cinema Society had to say about OWC’s solutions available at MacSales.com:

DCS on the memory upgrade…
“We ordered a memory upgrade kit online from MacSales.com, custom designed for that particular iMac, and loaded it to the hilt with as much RAM as would fit. We went from a measly 8GB, (which adequately handled our older and smaller files’ sizes,) all the way to a screaming 4K ready 64GB.”

DCS on the ThunderBay 4…
“The ThunderBay is easily user configurable in RAID 0, 1, 4, 5 & 1+0 via their SoftRAID, a software suite which also provides intelligent drive monitoring with desktop & email notification in case there is ever a drive that acts up. (I’ll have to take their word for it, because this is my second ThunderBay and we have yet to experience any issues in heavy use for well over a year now.)”
