Upgrade with Caution: GSM iPhone 7s Lack CDMA Network Support

NWTKXIPH7PMI_heroIf you plan to upgrade to the iPhone 7, you might want to take future use further into consideration. According to Apple’s tech specs, AT&T and T-Mobile iPhone 7 models do not support CDMA networks. So if you were planning to use an AT&T or T-Mobile model that utilizes GSM wireless technology and then switch to Verizon or Sprint in the future, you will be out of luck – even with an unlocked iPhone.

As Mac Performance Guide points out succinctly:

  • Buying an iPhone 7 or 7 Plus for AT&T or T-Mobile means that it can never support Verizon or Sprint.
  • Buying an iPhone 7 or 7 Plus for Verizon or Sprint allows use on any of the carrier networks.

This marks a major change, as all iPhone 6s models supported both GSM and CDMA networks. You can read more about the matter at Mac Performance Guide.

Regardless of which iPhone 7 you buy, NewerTech has your protective case needs covered with the NuGuard KX.
