Ten Years Later: Schiller Talks Launch of ‘Earth-Shattering’ iPhone

iPhone 4Ten Years ago today, then Apple CEO Steve Jobs took the stage at Macworld in San Francisco to announce the first iPhone. But while the device wouldn’t be released for several months, the impact of the announcement and eventual release are still felt today.

To commemorate the anniversary, Apple’s senior VP of worldwide marketing, Phil Schiller, sat down with tech writer Steve Levy of Backchannel. Schiller reminisces about many aspects of the development and what Apple’s expectations for the iPhone were.

“We knew we were working on something important that was big to Apple, and that the world was changing around these things in the future. But we didn’t know how big it would be, and we didn’t know how many things would come from it,” Schiller said.

Schiller also discusses the challenges that he, Jobs, and the company faced to launch the device. You can read the entire article here for more on the iPhone’s 10th anniversary.
