OWC Launches Charity Water Campaign, Matching Dollar for Dollar

Last Tuesday was “Giving Tuesday,” a time set aside to encourage charitable giving. As we mentioned in a recent Rocket Yard post— Giving Tuesday: A Word from Larry O’Connor, OWC Founder and CEO—we believe that giving is not something that should be limited to just one Tuesday a year. Giving should be an ongoing practice for all of us.

So, to help encourage you to get involved, OWC has partnered with charity: water, a non-profit organization that brings clean and safe drinking water to people in developing countries.

Why charity: water?

OWC is all about solutions, and charity: water is an exceptional solution to a tremendous need across the globe!

Six hundred sixty-three million people in the world live without clean water. That’s nearly 1 in 10 people worldwide, twice the population of the United States. The majority live in isolated rural areas and spend hours every day walking to collect water for their families. Not only does walking for water keep kids out of school or take up time that parents could use to earn money, but the water often carries diseases that can make everyone sick.

But when a community gets access to clean water, it can change just about everything. It can improve health, increase access to food, grow local economies, and help kids spend more time in school. Life-changing, clean water is right beneath their feet and charity: water is the solution for providing access to this.

The Impact

Health: Diseases from dirty water kill more people every year than all forms of violence, including war. 43% of those deaths are children under five years old. Access to clean water and basic sanitation can save around 16,000 lives every week.

Time: In Africa alone, women spend 40 billion hours a year walking for water. Access to clean water gives communities more time to grow food, earn an income, and go to school – all of which fight poverty.

Education: Clean water helps keep kids in school, especially girls. Less time collecting water means more time in class. Clean water and proper toilets at school mean that teenage girls don’t have to stay home for a week out of every month.

Women’s Empowerment: Women are responsible for 72% of the water collected in Sub-Saharan Africa. When a community gets water, women and girls get their lives back. They start businesses, improve their homes, and take charge of their own futures.

Join Us!

100% of the money you donate goes directly to clean water projects, thanks to a dedicated group of private donors who fund overhead costs, staff salaries, trips to the field, and more.

When completed, charity: water will show where the donations went via Google Maps with GPS coordinates, photos, and information about the community served. You’ll be able to see the direct impact you’re making around the world.

To make it even more worth your consideration (and to double your impact), OWC will match dollar for dollar raised by the public – up to $25,000!

charity: water provides solutions that OWC can get behind. Solutions that OWC will get behind. So, please take this opportunity to give by joining our campaign – because water really does change everything.
