The New Mac Pro is Ready for Order! Well, Almost…

Bear with me for some random musings including an Eric Clapton, Karate Kid Kung Fu, Babe, and a children’s book reference you may not understand. Apologies if that so happens to be the case, I’m a bit tired.

It’s after 3:00 AM, December 10, 2019, Central Standard Time here in the U.S. Marques Brownlee spotted the release date of the all-new 2019 Mac Pro several days ago, and many outlets have confirmed the date, rebroadcasting the news. So, can we order now? It’s after midnight, and I’ve got you on my mind… Patience, grasshopper, patience.

Okay, we will wait patiently. But is it inevitable? Will the new Mac Pro be ready to order soon, or can I take a little nap? After all, it’s 3:20 AM and I am quite sleepy.

Will it be online orders only, or will you be able to see, touch and smell the new Mac Pro at a store near you later today? I can’t exactly say. My eyes are getting very heavy.

As of now, there has been no grand announcement splashed across the front page of apple.com. Even Apple Australia is silent, and it is past 7PM, December 10th there! I’m starting to doze.

But here is what we do know: The starting price of the new Mac Pro is $5,999 and it will have some level of expandability. Its frame is stainless steel and the chassis is aluminum. The motherboard is designed with the processor and PCIe expansion bus on one side, and memory and storage on the other. It has up to 28 cores and 1.5TB of memory. Yes, RAM.

Here’s what else we know: The 2019 Mac Pro makes use of a PCIe gen3 bus with 64 lanes. And Graphics? Just AMD, MPX, and Afterburner. That’ll do pig, that’ll do. I’m getting loopy.

And more knowing: The half-length x4 PCIe slot provides two Thunderbolt 3, two USB 3 Gen 1, and one 3.5 mm headphone jack on the rear panel of the Mac Pro. There are two Thunderbolt 3 ports on the top of the Mac Pro. Two 10 G Ethernet ports on the rear panel support 1 Gb, 2.5 Gb, 5 Gb, and 10 Gb Ethernet link speeds. Yeah, I think I’m going to pass out.

The knowingest: OWC will have you covered. Keep your eyes on our Mac Pro page for all the latest and greatest updates and upgrades to your latest and greatest machine. Final overwhelming yawn. You know, the kind that makes your eyes water? Yep, that one.

Stay tuned to the Rocket Yard. We’ll let you know what we know when we know if we know. If today is the day, that is.

Good night moon. Goodnight cow jumping over the moon Mac Pro.

  • Will it support Nvidia cards so we can use Octane/RedShift renderer with C4D or CUDA acceleration in AFX and Premiere? AMD is bleh. Cute for still graphics tho.

    • There is no reason to think that the new Mac Pro will support Nvidia because that is mostly a matter of the operating system and not the hardware. So perhaps the question will be, can High Sierra run on a Mac Pro?

  • Warms my heart to wake up at 6am to start video editing on a deadline and, after glancing at email subjects, find a fellow grown man excited about this fantastic beast coming out (and making all the references from Kung Fu to Good Night Moon that I get!!).

Well, it’s still not out…as of 6:30AM Pacific Time, but most people here in California don’t really get to work or make big news till around 10am or so. I’ll check back then. ;-)
