Did you know that a 2019 study found that the average person picked up his or her smartphone 96 times each day? Millennials, those who were born between 1981 and 1996, are even more smartphone-obsessed, with a 2016 report saying that individuals in this age group look at their phones about 150 times a day! Here’s a way to find out just how often you pick up your iPhone.
The stats are found in Apple’s Screen Time capability, which defaults to telling you how much time you spend per day or week on each device or all Apple devices. To see how often your hands pick up that iPhone, you need to dig a little deeper.
Launch Settings, then tap Screen Time > See All Activity. Scroll down to the area titled “Pickups” to find your daily average. The stats also show which days you were most busy with your iPhone, and which apps were used the most after picking up the device.
In the screenshot above, you can see that so far this week, I’ve picked up my iPhone 238 times, with about a third of those pickups occurring on Wednesday when I was writing an article about Microsoft Office for iPhone.
This stat is also available for your iPad if you have Screen Time enabled. I find that for the iPad, the number of pickups is considerably less — I average about six per day.
