Without NAB, OWC ThunderBay 8 Nabs ProductionHUB Award of Excellence

ProductionHUB Awards of Excellence

ProductionHUB’s annual “live” NAB Show award program — like so many others — bit the dust this year due to COVID-19. However, they went virtual and just announced their recipients, including the OWC ThunderBay 8 professional-grade 8-Bay Thunderbolt 3 storage solution.

Awards of Excellence

About this year’s Awards of Excellence, ProductionHUB states:

“It just wouldn’t be awards season (virtual or otherwise) without our very own ProductionHUB Awards of Excellence. Every year around this time the editorial staff at ProductionHUB, along with some noted industry experts takes a long look at some of the latest in new offerings in production equipment and software. Of course as with everything else going on this year, the logistics were a little bit harder. But the show must go on! ProductionHUB proudly presents the 2020 Award of Excellence winners.”

Listed among the professional-grade cameras, lighting gear, production switchers, 4K/UltraHD recorders, and reference monitors, OWC is proud to be named as ProductionHUB’s storage solution of choice this year. Here’s what they had to say:

The ThunderBay 8 is a professional grade 8 Bay Thunderbolt 3 storage solution for pros. Think of it like a high-performance personal data center offering a lots of configuration possibilities and almost limitless storage capacity for filmmakers, video production, and graphic designers. With eight hot-swappable drive bays, OWC ThunderBay 8 offers professional-grade storage capacity in a Thunderbolt 3 desktop-sized design. Mix 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch HDDs and/or SSDs in any combination up to 112TB of capacity and use them independently or match drives and combine them in a speed and/or redundant RAID with the included SoftRAID setup and management software.

  • Is WIFI feasible for initial loading of the Thunder Bay 8?

What would be the maximum length of CAT6 cable possible if i go that route?

Casn this be entirely remote control or does one need to walk over to cut power or power up?>

Can Backup software like SuperDuper be used initially? Or for synch later, or for both?

    Cheers,
    DRA

I can reply to this. The Thunderbay sleeps when the Mac sleeps and wakes when the Mac wakes. The drives are not ejected and therefore do not need to be remounted. It is NICE!

    • The Thunderbay units are designed to be connected directly to a machine via the Thunderbolt 3 connection, not intended for use via networking. The unit itself does not need to be powered on or off, though you can, it can be left powered on and it will sleep when there is no data connection detected to the unit.

  • I have the thunder bay 8 IT IS AWESOME!!!! Thanks for recognizing OWC!!!
