Like all of our Storage Solutions, the Mercury Elite-AL Pro “Quad Interface” offers incredible value along with great versatility.

Also included is the Intech HD Speedtools performance suite and Carbon Copy Cloner. None of these applications are required to use the Elite, but they are excellent applications to have in your utilities library.

  • Hi Julian…as you can see, we’re about honesty and transparency so made sure your comments were visible. We take our customer trust very seriously…it’s really the foundation of our mission here. Because without your trust, we have nothing.

Something is not right here…if we we’re having the same issue with multiple customers, it would be a well-known and widespread issue. I know this doesn’t solve your personal situation, but wanted you to be aware of status on our Elite drives.

Not sure what the “tech attitude” is about…that is not how we treat our customers. Sounds like both ends…our techs and your IT guys are unable to determine problem so perhaps frustration building for all involved.

But let’s eliminate one variable. I would like you to work with the same representative here in our Tech Support department. That way, the same knowledge, dialogue, etc. can be had going forward. I will make arrangements for this.

I hope you feel this “one size doesn’t fit all” approach acknowledges your situation and that we are very committed to resolving it to your satisfaction.

    Sincerely,

    OWC Grant

  • As a longtime OWC drive user with 20+ OWC Mercury Elite Pro drives all full of video, I’m REALLY concerned about what I’m seeing. Is OWC letting quality slide in order to keep prices falling? The last three Mercury Elite Pro drives that I’ve gotten from OWC have crashed FCP, my Mac, even destroyed QT files so that they are no longer accessable. OWC drives used to be the one thing I could count on, and as a videomaker who uses a digital to digital workflow, the foundation of how I get things done is my drive space. I have also gotten no joy from OWC – your techs keep insisting that everything’s okay with these drives – and they keep sending them back to me with the same “drive checks out okay” test. If all your techs are going to do is drive check, that is worthless to me. I do them too and I’m confused. I have my IT guys check it out and they’re confused. I send it back to OWC for evaluation and help and instead get tech attitude. OWC is NOT Lacie. Or Western Digital. The people who use your products are generally professionals who use technology in their work and have more than a passing knowledge in computers. And if OWC is not going to take the time to do anything more than a disk utility drive check before hautily claiming that it’s operator error – I even left the F’d UP media on the drive for you to try out – then I need to move to G-Tech.

    • Here’s another idea for you Julian…when saves or data access in programs hang (spinning ball), sometimes, the culprit is a sleep issue with OS X either letting the mounted drive sleep, or after waking the system from full sleep. To avoid this, one can turn off the drive and then turn it back on to force a remount in OS X. Usually the unresponsive app snaps into action. Then, resave the file that was hanging and replace whatever was on the external drive as the force unmount action can cause issues with the original file.

To eliminate any potential adverse effects of an automatic sleep mode, many professional users configure their desktop settings to have no sleep mode, don’t allow the OS to let drives sleep when possible, and close large files such as video or photos before putting the system to sleep or shutting down for the night.
